In my experience, those are many times the most useful software. I like the interface, it’s a “get down to business” interface, with a learning curve. Stay away from the ripoff artists who use the anki name to try to get your money. Originally for PCs only, and always completely free, the developer made this version for iOS for which I will gladly pay to support his efforts. The original active recall testing via spaced repetition app.
Anki could be a killer app.bottom line is that it needs to become much more user friendly, and the help - both the guide and the in-app help - needs to be re-worked from scratch to focus on end users. And of course, the documentation is of no help whatsoever. After uploading my CSV file, and playing with the card formats, it seems Anki cannot let me do this. I want the exactly opposite on the back side of the card. But for learning Spanish, I want to create a front with the Spanish word, a sample Spanish phrase using that word, and a picture. If all you want is a very simple front & back card, this is a great app.
Figuring out how to create a custom format/content card is quite difficult. The user guide is worthless.looks like it was written by a developer for the benefit of other developers, not for end users. There is no context-sensitive help that explains each term and setting, and this is my #1 complaint about the app. There are many options/settings, but none of them seem to do exactly what you **think** they do. The UX & UI of the spaced repetition terminology is extremely confusing. Major plus, and any flashcard app that cannot do this is one I'd avoid. It's great that you can create your own cards on your PC, sync, and use them on your droid. I really don't know why people are so happy with this app.
A move from 1995 to 2020 would be welcome :) I’m looking forward to a better looking version in the future. I say ironic as I expected the UX of the better looking version to be better all round, which was clearly not the case. Ironically, I also find that it’s much faster to add new cards in this version than the better looking version I originally purchased. That allows me to write the word on my iPad using the Apple Pencil before I flip the card, which further helps with memory and also makes sure I get the Portuguese accented characters in the right place.
It reminds me of working with Windows 95 applications! Hence why I took away one star.īut.it works! It syncs perfectly. It doesn’t look good, I’ll say that right off the bat. I am learning Portuguese, and didn’t want that effort to fail, so I bought this app too. The other app looked a lot better, but within a few days suffered from syncing issues to the point where it became unusable. I had originally purchased a different Anki app. If you accidentally imported the review history of someone else, because they shared their deck with scheduling, you can use the following add-on to remove the history of cards you have selected.TL DR: Not the best looking Anki app out there, but it works flawlessly and has really helped my efforts to learn a new language. If you click Info in the browser you'll see any previous reviews you've done listed there, but that history will not influence how the cards are scheduled: they will be treated just like new cards. When you do this, Anki will turn the cards back into new cards. Select all the cards and choose Cards->Reschedule or Edit->Reschedule, then Place at end of new card queue.Find the cards you want to reset in the browser. While it can be tough to recover from a backlog of cards, erasing all the progress you have made is the worst possible thing you can do: you will still remember many of those cards, and you'll have to start them all over even though you could have pushed "easy." Instead, consider setting up a daily review limit ("maximum reviews/day" in the options) and studying a set number of the overdue cards each day until you catch up. Resetting part of your collection because you are behind is not recommended. For instance, you might have completely changed a card or updated it so that you need to start learning it again, or you may have flipped through some cards without really studying if you were just trying to take a look at the cards or figure out how Anki works. Sometimes you may want to "reset" part of your collection so that the cards become new again and the scheduling algorithm starts from the beginning.
